CATIA is an acronym for Computer-Aided three-dimensional interactive application, which is a multi-platform computer-aided design/manufacturing software written in C++ that runs on IBM AIX, HP-UX workstations, Windows 2000/XP and Sun Solaris. It also includes Design, Analysis and manufacturing software techniques. So it can be used to complete the functions of an entire project. Hence it is also called Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). CATIA plays a major role in the design process. It is being used by the majority of automotive and aircrafts products & its auxiliaries and tooling design. Written in the C++ programming language, CATIA is the cornerstone of the Dassault systems product lifecycle management software suite. CATIA competes in the high-end CAD/CAM/CAE market with Creo Elements/Pro and NX.
