PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) is a digital computer used for the automation of various electro-mechanical processes in industries. The PLC receives information from connected sensors or input devices, processes the data and triggers outputs based on pre-programmed parameters. PLC consists of a microprocessor which is programmed using the computer language which is written on a computer and is downloaded to the PLC via cable. PLCs can range from small “building block” devices with tens of input and outputs (I/O), in a housing integral with the processor to large rack-mounted modular devices with a count of thousands of I/O.
